Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems (EIFS) are growing in popularity because few, if any, competitive materials offer such a wide range of desirable product benefits, including durability, increased R-values, lower maintenance, design flexibility, and code compliance. This course will introduce participants to EIFS as a single source exterior insulated cladding solution ideal for commercial, residential, new, and retrofit construction. The course will outline key architectural decisions related to EIFS; and illustrate how architects can incorporate EIFS into building designs that maximize aesthetic value, building longevity, sustainability, LEED ratings and cost-effectiveness.
Learning Objectives:
Classify Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems (EIFS) as an exterior insulated cladding solution.
Identify the composition of EIFS, its material component layers, and installation steps.
Recognize the design flexibility of EIFS in order to create or match any architectural style, color, and texture.
Describe the positive attributes of continuous insulation (CI), including enhanced effective R-value, dew point management, and improved energy efficiency.
