Jeremy and James Chen in Concert
James(21) started piano lesson before the 7th birthday. His piano lessons were very irregular initially due to the teacher's availability and the boys' house moving. His playing was never stopped; he taught himself to some extent and taught his younger brother to play 'Twinkle Twinkle' with one hand.

James' musical talent was later on discovered by Barbara White, a concert pianist and an examiner from Middlesbrough. James was soon taken to perform in public for the first time and since then won a collection of trophies, including the Stockton Music Festival and the Darlington and Northallerton Rotary Young Musician Competition at age 9, and he went on to score grade 8 then DipABRSM distinction at age 10.
Jeremy (19) started formal lessons with Barbara. He was carefully nurtured and developed from the very beginning. He sailed through his exams with flying marks, achieving grade 8 high distinction within three years of learning and claimed back every trophy his brother had won before.

When James joined Cheethams School of Music in 2013, Jeremy was invited to join in by the Head of Keyboard the following year. They were both offered to skip an academic year. Boarding school life at such young age is facilitated with each other around. The boys generally did well musically and academically. Both Laureates of Chopin International Festival in Warsaw 2016, they were awarded solo pianist role individually at the prestigious Christmas Concert. They gave recitals around Manchester area many times, at Manchester Cathedral, Chester Wesley Music Centre, Bridgewater Hall. They both won the senior Hazel Grove Music Festival  and James went on won the Emanuel Trophy Piano Competition. Together they gave concerts at home area regularly, at Middlesbrough Town Hall, Hartlepool Music Society, Long Newton Music, Hemsley Arts Centre, charity concerts for Education in Uganda, Butterwick Hospice and Rotary clubs, they also debuted piano concertos with Teesside Symphony Orchestra at two occasions.

The boys concert schedule was hindered during the covid time, only Jeremy played Tchaikovsky Piano Concert 1 with Wilmslow orchestra in between his A level exams. They both left Cheethams' with Pianist Leaver's Prize and Fellowship of Trinity College of Music.

James is currently studying Maths at University Cambridge. He is due to perform Prokofiev Piano Concerto 2 with Imperial College university orchestra in Mar 2025. Jeremy is currently studying Computer Science at University Cambridge. He won the Trinity College piano competition last year. Both of them are active musicians at University nevertheless.
