Burns Supper at Edinburgh FC / EFC feat. Tich Frier
The EFC annual Burns' Supper over many years since the very early days when the club met in 23 George Square, has become one of the most popular events we present. Always great fun as well as a sell-out!
2024's event promises to be a most entertaining evening. As usual there'll be haggis, bashed neeps and champit tatties just as you'd expect, plus The Immortal Memory will be delivered tonight by Tich Frier. Tich began his professional career in folk music back in the 1960s with the The Bitter Withy with Andy Ramage and the late Lesley Hale. Tich is blessed with a wit as sharp as a pin and a fine voice to boot. We're looking forward to this!
Piping duties tonight are in the hands of Pipe Major Ben Duncan a piper of distinction. Ben is a Champion piper from Edinburgh who began playing at age four years. He studied at the City of Edinburgh Music School under Andrew Wright and joined the Army in 2007. During his Army career Ben achieved a double distinction on the Army Pipe Majors Course, was the Pipe Sergeant instructor at the Army School of Bagpipe Music & Highland Drumming and was appointed Pipe Major of The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards in 2018. Ben led the band on various state ceremonial events and went on to win the Scottish Championships, World Championships and Champion of Champions in 2022. He was awarded the Duke of Kents medal in 2022 for his services to the regiment and Pipes & Drums.
An esteemed solo piper, Ben has won numerous Champion Piper titles up and down the country notably winning both the A grade MSR and A grade Strathspeys & Reels at the Northern Meeting and Argyllshire Gathering, overall Champion Piper at the Braemar Gathering on 3 occasions, was 5th in the Gold Medal and Former Winners MSR in 2022 and at The Masters at Piping Live in 2023.
Ben now works as the Assistant Pipe Major at George Watsons College, Edinburgh and plays with the 13-times Grade 1 World Champions, Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band.
The ladies at UCC have agreed once again to do our catering which previously we have enjoyed enormously so we're looking forward to seeing what comes out of the newly refurbished kitchen downstairs. No reason to suppose it will be any different this time with beautifully cooked, delicious home-made plates of haggis (inc vegetarian haggis option), as above.
With everything else continuing across in Ukraine we are extremely grateful to them for adding us into their already very busy schedule.

Accessibility
UCC has relatively easy access for wheelchair users. There's a portable ramp to enable the wheelchair to get past 3-4 steps from the street to the main door. Once inside everything is on the same level (ground floor) - performance room, bar and disabled-friendly toilets.
