Art for a Free Taiwan - in Boston!
Commemorate the 67th anniversary of the 228 Uprising at Art for a Free Taiwan!
Art for a Free Taiwan is a traveling art show that will tour three cities in the United States in tandem with promotional efforts for a documentary about Taiwan directed by Victoria Linchong. The exhibit will feature 6-8 posters created by political artists in Taiwan and the United States in the tradition of resistance art from the Spanish Civil War, the United Farm Workers movement, and Mai 1968. Posters will be available for sale, with proceeds benefiting both artists and the film, while raising public awareness of Taiwan's precarious democracy.
See the film on March 9th at The Lilypad on Inman Square! http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/588282
ALMOST HOME: TAIWAN is a feature documentary that reveals the untold story of Taiwan's struggle for democracy through a family road-trip back home. In the documentary, filmmaker Victoria Linchong returns to Taiwan with her family, searching for long-lost connections and becoming re-acquainted with the unique culture of the island and its wild beauty. Bridging the deeply personal and globally political, Almost Home: Taiwan clarifies the controversies surrounding Taiwan, while introducing viewers to raucous night markets, aboriginal festivals, sacred trees and kissing fish.
This is a fine cut of the film for a limited number of supporters. The screening will be followed by drinks and discussion.
