Art Walks
The Dickinson College Department of Theatre and Dance presents Art Walks, an integrative dance and theatre performance featuring an immersive production of Bertolt Brechts 1939 play Mother Courage directed by Prof. Karen Lordi-Kirkham takes place throughout the alleys of Carlisle. The audience will follow Mother Courage and her wagon as the story of her struggle to survive in wartime enfolds.
War, which is a continuation of business by other means, Brecht wrote, makes the human virtues fatal even to their possessors.
Interspersed throughout the play route are site-specific dance works that erupt out of seemly nowhere and serve to interrupt, intervene and disrupt the action of the play. In true epic theatre fashion, Art Walks walks the tightrope between illusion and reality, suspension and persistence and asks us to confront the real world. Joining dance professors Sarah Skaggs and Erin Crawley Woods is guest choreographer Emie Hughes '13. The dance pieces will be performed at various locations along the route but can also be viewed independently of the play.
Please note that the performance starts at Britton Plaza (outside of Holland Union Building) and the walking path is roughly 1.5 miles in length.
