Reflections: A Compilation of Musical Moments and Ideas
The music department warmly invites you to the Winter Concert on Friday, December 10. We will have two shows, one at 4:30 pm and one at 7:00 pm in the Guild and Commons.
This year, Daniel and I have reflected on how rich in-person teaching is. We can construct complicated chords together, grapple with challenging music theory concepts, sing in harmony together, and jam as musicians in one room! As we get back into the groove this semester, we have compiled a collection of musical moments to share with you.
The Advanced Musicianship class has been working on their capstone project, culminating in a mini lecture and demonstration which they will be sharing with you! Projects include: The Difference between Fiddle and Violin, Singing Around the World, Sampling in Rap Music, Early Video Game Music, and more.
Jazz Band and Rock Band have been honing in on their performance skills by learning scales and licks, discussion and practicing improvisation, and learning new music together. They will be sharing a few tunes from both the Jazz and Rock canon.
Foundation Arts Music has explored the ways that music can impact our brains, our emotions, and our lives as well as playing ukulele, taiko drums, and composing digital music. FA music will be giving you an insight into some of the music and musical ideas they have learned this semester.
The music exploratories have truly been "exploring" repertoire together and the Choir exploratory will be featured.
Masks will be required throughout this event. We require proof of vaccination or a negative Covid test (PCR preferred) taken within 72 hours prior to the event for attendance at in-person events.
We hope you will join us for an afternoon and evening of musical performance and conversation. You will surely learn something new and walk away inspired by the work of these music students.
