The Detention Lottery

Step behind the locked doors of an immigrant detention center.
Its 2018. Deportation, threats of deportation, the official policy of separating children from their parents, and "zero tolerance" meant immigration detention centers were bulging with detainees. Mere statistics about the scope of the injustice and inhumanity cannot really help Americans understand what was being done in their names. The audience enters a U.S. immigration detention center courtroom to observe judges handing down, in the words of one immigration judge, life and death decisions in a traffic court setting. Since 2018, little has changed.
