History for the Future

Online Event

Sales have ended for this event.

How have we, as residents of Minneapolis, assumed responsibility for the care and well-being of one another? This hour-long community dialogue will invite participants to reflect on their own personal engagement with mutual aid as they explore archival materials from history: photographs, objects, and personal stories from Minneapolitans of the past. As we examine these sources, we will ask: Which stories of housing, food, and health help us reimagine how people in Minneapolis have survived together? How do we want our futures to look?

Advance registration is required for this virtual event.

History for the Future is a project exploring the history of mutual aid in South Minneapolis. A series of public events - including community dialogue, art making, and historical exploration - will inform a public exhibition in May 2021. This outdoor exhibit will be placed against and in tension with the space occupied by the MPD 3rd Precinct in South Minneapolis.

About the presenters:
Acoma Gaither and Andrea Manolov are public historians inviting people to imagine the future of their communities. Both are current graduate students in the Heritage Studies and Public History program at the University of Minnesota.

Earlier in the day, consider attending the Refreshing the History of 27th & Lake Walking Tour with Cara Letofsky. Ticket information: https://bpt.me/4749449
