11th Annual Ikebana Art Exhibit with Bonsai

Japanese Friendship Garden of Phoenix
Phoenix, AZ

Sales have ended for this event.

The Japanese Friendship Garden of Phoenix invites you to our 11th Annual Ikebana Art Exhibit with Bonsai, sponsored by The Japan Foundation, presented by The Sonoran Desert Sogetsu Ikebana Study Group, Phoenix Bonsai Society. Scottsdale Bonsai Society and Tucson Bonsai Society.
Ikebana is the art of Japanese flower arrangement. Sogetsu Ikebana is a contemporary Ikebana art style that encourages creativity and artistic expression using the natural beauty of flowers, leaves, and branches with unexpected and unconventional materials.
Bonsai is a Japanese term which, literally translated, means planted in a container. It is another art form of growing ornamental, artificially dwarfed tree or shrubs. This art form is derived from an ancient Chinese horticultural practice, part of which was then redeveloped under the influence of Japanese Zen Buddhism.

Ikebana is the art of arrangement where the participant enjoys momentary meditation during the arranging experience.

Bonsai, in contrast, is the art of cultivation where the participant enjoys continuous meditation over a long period of time.

The 11th Annual Ikebana Art Exhibit with Bonsai is an exquisite, authentic display of both Ikebana & Bonsai as well as additional art presentations including Pottery and Photography which will be exhibited throughout the garden.

Activities this year feature artist led tours, live flower arrangement presentations, demonstrations, and hands-on experiences. A Special Ikebana Exhibit (Irodori: Abundance of Color) will be offered in our Tea house and Tea Garden for an additional cost of $5 where guests will be served Japanese Tea and traditional sweets alongside live musical entertainment.
There will be demonstrations titled Live Ikebana & Live Bonsai by artists on both Saturday & Sunday. Watch as a large ikebana structure unfolds before your eyes in our lovely Japanese Friendship Garden.

Join us for this special exhibit and experience the power of ikebana and Bonsai to relax, rejuvenate, and bring profound joy. Come to see beautiful art creations that embellish the serenity of the strolling Japanese garden in the middle of downtown Phoenix.  Please see more information at www.japanesefriendshipgarden.org
