Faith and Racial Justice: Addressing Racism
We will begin with clarifying the meaning of racism. With the aid of a slideshow, well excavate how racism was constructed in the United States such that it became part of the fabric of our society.
We will look at how a racist culture oppresses not only People of Color, but in different ways and to different degrees also dehumanizes white people. Through an experiential exercise, we will reveal costs of racism for white folks. We will focus on the impact of racial hierarchy on the white psyche, both personal and societal, leading to an understanding of racial justice work as a source of spiritual healing. We will ask How is the church accountable for working to end racism? and consider personal next steps.
This program is offered at no cost to members of the five Unitarian Universalist churches in Westchester County and members of the seven Houses of Worship in and near Croton-on-Hudson.
