The internationally-acclaimed chamber ensemble, REBEL, will present a multi-faceted concert of music and poetry on the subject of enigma. The centerpiece and inspiration for the program, Couperin's famous and enigmatic work for harpsichord, 'Les Barricades Mystérieuses' is woven throughout, interspersed with music performed on period instruments by Telemann, J.S. Bach, Biber, Vivaldi and Maute as well as selections of poetry on the subject by Shelley, Rumi, Rosetti and others. This musical and literary tapestry will feature the following performers:
Paul Hecht, actor/ narrator; Matthias Maute & Sophie Larivière, recorders; Nina Stern & Ed Matthew, chalumeaux (the predecessor of the clarinet); Jörg-Michael Schwarz & Karen MArie Marmer, violins; Risa Browder, viola; Motomi Igarashi, violone and Dongsok Shin, harpsichord & organ.
The concert takes place in the historic and acoustically-excellent Bedford Presbyterian Church. A fully-catered reception follows the concert where audience members can meet and mingle with the artists.
