Children of the Inquisition
Children of the Inquisition is a documentary film that reveals the lives of those forced to convert or flee to escape the tortures of the Spanish and Portuguese Inquisitions. Their hidden identities and flights for safety dramatically affected a changing world. The film features a religiously, ethnically, and racially diverse cast of their contemporary descendants - many just discovering their problematic Jewish roots. Through these families' journeys, we explore and reveal the commonalities that transcend race and religion. The film is shot over six years on four continents. In the most personal way, Children of the Inquisition makes history come alive, revealing the extent to which some Jewish families went to maintain their faith, while other families were forced to change their religion, identity, or homeland just to survive accusations of their neighbors during the Inquisition. To tell the story, we personalize the history - often through the ancestors of contemporary characters who are searching to better understand their family's role in history and their own identity.
