Join Universal Gospel Choir for STAND IN THE LIGHT, an inspirational spring concert series June 7 and 8 at Canadian Memorial United Church. One of Vancouvers most enduring cultural treasures, Universal Gospel Choir (UGC) has been bringing healing and hope through the power of gospel music to audiences for the past 30 years. A multi-faith, diverse community choir of 70 voices strong, UGC is renowned for its big sound, infectious exuberance, commitment to musical excellence and eclectic repertoire that blends old school urban gospel with social justice anthems and uplifting pop.
STAND IN THE LIGHT features a captivating repertoire of music that truly honours humanity's ability to transform and persevere. With rooted songs like Deep River and Harriet Tubman, UGC celebrates the Civil Rights Movement that called a nation to see all people as equal. Gospel classics will get the audience off its feet with foot stomping soul. And new pop songs will inspire hope and acceptance as we challenge people to face the greatest risk of all to stand in the light and be seen as we are.
UGC is led by Music Director Lonnie Delisle, a renowned choral director and musician. Lonnie's exceptional choral arranging skills and musical excellence help create a powerful sound for the Universal Gospel Choir.
