Theater Workshop Presents: The Mermaid and the Merrimack

PRESS RELEASE :

The Mermaid and the Merrimack makes a splash on the Theater Workshop stage.
A present-day fairy-tale set in Newburyport tells the story of a teenage fisherman named Jack who befriends a brave mermaid named Merissa who takes a risk by leaving her deep-sea home to explore the Merrimack River where she hopes to find the cause of pollutants pouring into the sea. They join in their efforts to solve the mystery and secure clean water to save the eco-system. An original script written and directed by Stacey April Fix brings a charming under-sea community of characters to the stage when the mermaid kingdom discovers Merissas connection with humans and her family loyalty is tested. Jack becomes an advocate raising awareness while the adventures ensue with hilarious pirates, a crustacean army in pursuit of the lost mermaid, and a deep-sea courtroom lead by an octopus judge. This is a magical story with a meaningful message for our coastal community that will touch audiences of all ages. Theater Workshop is celebrating 20 years of professional childrens theater, an enrichment program of Workshop Arts Inc., a non-profit foundation. Children from different schools in the surrounding towns are included in this cast. This Workshop Arts program is supported in part by Cultural Council grants from Newbury, Salisbury and Rowley.
