Vegetation Management for Shoreline Landowners
Learn more about coastal geology and how to manage your landscape for slope stability and wildlife habitat in this free evening program at the WSU Extension classroom in Port Hadlock. Guest speakers are Ben Alexander from Sound Native Plants and Lisa Kaufman from the Northwest Straits Foundation.

Jefferson County's marine shorelines support marine food webs and the local economy.  People who live and work on shoreline properties have a large role to play in their protection and restoration. Regional experts will discuss key topics related to shoreline vegetation at this workshop designed specifically for shoreline landowners.

Featured Speakers:

Ben Alexander is co-owner of Sound Native Plants, a large native plant nursery based in Olympia. He oversees their installation and maintenance programs, and consults on project planning, design and permitting.  He will talk about how to recognize problems, practical solutions & designing successful revegetation projects.

Lisa Kaufman, Program Manager for the Northwest Straits Foundation, has served as project manager for shoreline restoration projects around Puget Sound, first with the Washington Department of Natural Resources and now with the Northwest Straits Foundation. Her presentation will focus on nearshore habitats and the coastal processes that sustain them, which in turn supports salmon, shellfish, shorebirds and other marine animals.

The program is sponsored by the Jefferson County Marine Resources Committee and the Northwest Straits Foundation, with funding from the EPA's National Estuary Program through WDFW's Puget Sound Marine and Nearshore Grant Program.
