Bushwick Book Club presents Jonathan Ames' YOU WERE NEVER REALLY HERE
Jonathan Amess new book, YOU WERE NEVER REALLY HERE, a thriller, will be published March 20th by Vintage/Penguin, and the movie based on the book, starring Joaquin Phoenix and directed by Lynne Ramsay, will be released April 6th , distributed by Amazon Pictures. The film won Best Actor and Best Screenplay at the Cannes 2017.

The Bushwick Book Club will present a performance of new songs in response to the book, in addition to visual art, film and snacks on March 29th at Mirror in the Woods- 575 Union Street, Brooklyn, NY 11215.  Jonathan Ames will be there for the performance and will be giving a reading!

The Mirror in the Woods show in response to YOU WERE NEVER REALLY HERE will feature performances by BBC Founder, Susan Hwang, Jessie Kilguss, Charlie Nieland, Richard Alywn, Gates Callanan (visual art), Katie Fricas (cartoonist), Ellia Bisker, Jim Andralis, Krystal Hawes, Dawn Kang, Space Meow, Nicola Yvette (dance), Lisa Barnstone (film), Sung Uni Lee (snacks)

Founded in Brooklyn in 2009, the Bushwick Book Club meets every month and employs the talents of local songwriters and artists who plumb the depths of a chosen literary gem to create that rare and beautiful thing  a new song (or visual art, dance, film or snack). All songs are then performed at a live show.  The Bushwick Book Club now has several branches all over the world, including Portland, LA, Seattle, Malmo, Sweden, Santa Barbara, New
Orleans, and Toronto, Canada, with new chapters developing in Ireland and Wales. The Bushwick Book Club Podcast was launched last year.

Author Bio:
Jonathan Ames is the author of the novels I Pass Like Night, The Extra Man, and Wake Up, Sir!, the graphic novel The Alcoholic (illustrated by Dean Haspiel), and the essay collections What's Not to Love?, My Less Than Secret Life, I Love You More Than You Know, and The Double Life Is Twice as Good. He is the editor of Sexual Metamorphosis: An Anthology of Transsexual Memoirs and has been awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship. He is also the creator of two television shows: the HBO series Bored to Death and the STARZ series Blunt Talk.
