OUR STORY:
Chica Project envisions a future where every Latina will have access to the education, meaningful experiences, and guidance required to realize her true potential through concerted leadership development and a pipeline of intergenerational Latina mentors. Founded in 2011, we aim to close the opportunity divide for Latinas by empowering them with the skills, confidence, and network necessary to thrive personally and professionally. We accomplish this through targeted workshops that promote personal growth, leadership advancement, and cultural identity exploration, with a cohort of high-school youth in a group mentoring setting. Today, we have served and mentored over 600 young women throughout Massachusetts.
Latinas are an untapped source of human capital. As the fastest growing population, Latinos are projected to contribute over $1.7 trillion to the US economy by 2020. Latino communities are often missing critical resources that expand the opportunity gap. Therefore, we are doing the work to prepare young women to accelerate in today's economy by providing our participants with professional skills and leadership abilities, as well as a network of role models and mentors from whom they gain inspiration, access, and the confidence to know that any goal is within reach. By supporting us, you can ensure that our program participants are prepared to succeed in the workforce.
Our success depends upon the support of countless sponsors, donors, mentors, and volunteers who have successfully transformed and empowered the lives of many young women throughout our Commonwealth.
OUR IMPACT:
"This is an organization that helps women feel empowered. Chica Project makes everyone feel welcomed and loved with open arms and no one judges, that's what I love about it. It never hurts to try something new." -Gianny Mojica, Aluma, Participant for three years, UMass Dartmouth, Class of 2020
"Chica Project has helped me gain real-life skills and a sense of leadership while building up my confidence that I had lost. My sense of identity as a woman has strengthened throughout my time as a program participant. I want to continue to grow into a smart, educated, woke woman and I feel like Chica Project is guiding me in achieving that." -Emily Gomez, Second Year Participant, Sophomore at KIPP Academy Lynn
