Discover Jazz Series Live at Kola Restaurant & Ultra Lounge
Family Circle Productions is a long time supporter of independent music in Southeastern Michigan and across the country. We have produced a series of musical events from intimate jazz series to theatre concerts featuring hot new emerging artists as well as international headliners. FCP is dedicated to the preservation of Jazz Music. It is our goal to introduce and support new and rising talent to new audiences. The host venue for our series this year is the fabulous Kola Restaurant & Ultra Lounge in Farmington, MI. Our series starts off June 15th with Trumpeter Willie Bradley, then on July 20th it's the soulful jazzy sound of husband and wife duo Butch and Rhonda Coleman. On August 24th we bring the hottest new sax sensation Paula Atherton and September 14th it's the fabulous flute stylings of Kim Scott.
Delicious is the first word that popped into my head when I first listened to North Carolina-based jazz trumpet phenom Willie Bradley's new solo project, ANOTHER DAY & TIME. It's a total winner, with all the ingredients that make for hit music. It's a bounty of lively horn tracks, in collaboration with keyboardist/producer Nicholas Cole, featuring guest artists Jeff Kashiwa, Marcus Anderson, Lin Rountree, John Dillard and guitarist Kay-Ta Matsuno. Expect Willie Bradley's ANOTHER DAY & TIME to be a major success story in 2014, we're excited to be part of this artist's journey! ~SCOTT O'BRIEN
Antoine Knight wants you to know one thing, he's not just trying to talk the talk - he can really Walk Da Walk! That's the soul inspiration and concept behind the Atlanta based saxophonist's highly anticipated follow-up to his 2004 debut project In The Red, which received airplay in over 50 cities and was the first independent artist jazz to be played on a Radio One Station (WJZZ 105.7 FM). The new CD, Walk Da Walk, is in the contemporary jazz (with some unexpected stylistic twists) at its best, but it's also the veteran musician's motto for living a life of authenticity. Knight took several years to ensure that Walk Da Walk conveyed a very personal autobiographical journey. A deeply spiritual person and musician, Knight creates an inspiring yet melodic chronicle that serves as an engaging testimony of where he has been in his life.
Saxophonist/Singer/Songwriter Paula Atherton is proving herself to be quite the connoisseur of groove with her third CD, Enjoy the Ride. With its nine songs all recently composed specifically for the release, it is an exhilarating and focused set conceived to rock listeners' worlds! New York-based Atherton moves from hard-driving instrumentals like "Turn it Up" and the JBs-esque "Catch Me If You Can" to the wistful soulful vocals "I Won't Give Up" and "Can't Get You Out of My Mind" all in a CD that flies by in the blink of a playfully batted eyelash. ~A. Kim Scott is a highly sought after jazz and classical flutist. She is a performer and a teacher. As Chair of the Music Department at Alabama's School of Fine Arts, she's shaping future Smooth Jazz superstars! Her latest album, RITE OF PASSAGE truly showcases her amazing talent while her exceptional tone and technique shine throughout this project. You'll find yourself getting lost in the haunting melody of the title track, and marveling at her attack on the grooves of the Smooth Jazz single, "Golden." In addition to her top-rate playing skills, Kim proves to be a fine singer, too on "Sweet Obsession," Kim sings both lead and background vocals, and adds just the right flair of flute, as well, now that's talent! Let Kim Scott's sensual style take you on a journey, one that will never have you thinking the same way about Smooth Jazz flute ever again! ~MARK EDWARDS
