Air Sealing & Energy Efficient Detailing Training and Hands-On Practicum for Remodelers, Insulators & Energy Services Providers
Saturday May 4, 8 am 10 am Classroom Training 10 am - 4 pm Optional Practicum Cost: $ 60 non members $ 45 NWEBG members Includes lunch! Like a windbreaker over a sweater, our homes need both good insulation and a continuous air barrier for the system to work right. As we build and remodel toward much lower energy use, construction professionals need to build skills in air sealing, blocking thermal bridges, and good thermal details to make houses really perform. This excellent workshop combines class time on the Building Science concepts with a hands on practicum on an historic home remodeling project. How to seal wall and shell penetrations that 90% of builders miss, before and after walls are closed Focus on attic and basement detailing Understanding air pressure and infiltration in houses and it's effects on both moisture and air quality How poorly installed insulation hurts performance The use of Blower Doors, Infrared Camera, and other Building Performance tools to improve our work The EPA Thermal Bypass Checklist and reducing Heat Bridges for Passive House and other low energy standards Instructor: Tom Balderston Efficiency Trainer, An Experienced Designer, Builder, and Contractor who works full time helping building and retrofit teams meet and certify under Green Program standards and low energy targets Sponsored By: Northwest EcoBuilding Guild The Commons @ Fertile Ground Thurston Energy Olympia Federal Savings Small Planet Workshop
