The Jazz Brotet has been playing together for one year, but some members have played with each other for many more. Most of the group has graduated from Vancouver Island Universitys jazz program and have had one on one lessons with instructors such as Ben Henriques, Ken Lister, Lee Ellefson, Hans Verhoeven, and Steve Smith. Members of the group have shared the stage with all the mentioned instructors, plus others including Cory Weeds, Terrell Stafford, Harold Mabern, Delfeayo Marsalis, Christine Jensen, Ingrid Jensen, and Bobby Shew, just to name a few. Most of the groups setlist is composed of mostly original material, with stylings of jazz, bossa, funk, modern contemporary, latin, and many other genres. The members of the ensemble are Port Albernis own Daniel Sim (saxophone), Jared Cleveland (guitar), Neil Thomson Turner (piano), Brock Meades (bass), and James Bowman (drums).
