Slow Food South Bay invites you to the Ultimate Paella Party, Sunday, October 7 from 5 to 9 p.m. The event gives you a chance to socialize with local foodies, taste some of the season's finest ingredients and help raise money to support Slow Food South Bay's efforts to educate others about the many benefits of good, clean and fair food. For the occasion, Chef Richard Poncini, whose ancestors came from Spain and from Italy's Piedmont region, will create his own version of paella. Early versions of this historic dish were cooked outdoors in the orchards near the Mediterranean coast of Spain. Rice, saffron and olive oil are staples. All other ingredients were - and remain - the choice of the cook. Our version of this classic dish will combine meat, seafood and vegetables in a hearty, locally-sourced mix. A vegetarian option will also available. Local wine is included. We'll finish with pies from Mission Pie. Jim Anderson, long-time Half Moon Bay fisherman and an articulate advocate for our local fishing fleet, will talk to us about the joys and challenges facing one of California's oldest fishing communities. We'll sit outdoors in a private garden, surrounded by oaks and olives. The soft sounds of Indian summer and Spanish guitar will fill the air. Wear sturdy shoes and bring a jacket to keep you comfy when the sun fades. |
