Dylan Goes Electric: Concert & Book Release
On July 30th, 2016 in South Seattle, the Rhapsody Project & Dusty Strings music present a book release party and concert featuring author Elijah Wald's paperback edition of "Dylan Goes Electric." Wald will read from his book and perform with Sandrine Sheon, followed by blues and hokum music performed by virtuoso fingerstyle guitarist Andy Cohen.

6:30pm - Doors Open

7:00pm - Discussion or reading lead by Elijah.

8:00pm - Elijah Wald Plays a set

9:00pm - Andy Cohen Plays a set

All ages event, BYOB. Advance Tickets $15, $20 Day of Sale.

Wald contextualizes the deeply divisive event in illuminating detail: his history of the social and musical trends (emphasizing the blues, his specialty) leading up to 1965 is thorough and enlightening, and his description of the scene at Newport in those years vividly and touchingly captures a period and a mood. Some of this material has been covered before, but rarely has it been done so knowingly, lovingly, and felicitously. All the players, too, are here (Joan Baez, Dave Van Ronk, Johnny Cash, et al.), and, though nostalgic, the book makes a major contribution to modern musical history.  Booklist (starred review)
