Biog:
The John Langan Band are a dynamic trio, with a sound that is rooted in Celtic Folk but encompasses Balkan, Roma, Gypsy Swing and Flamenco. The band met in Glasgow and has been playing together for 8 years. Their performances are high energy, unhinged, and musically extravagant, as they take traditional acoustic idioms and deliver them with a punk abandonment and virtuosic flare.
Wrapping pan European traditional acoustic music with infectious grooves, epic, pounding, sing along, punch the air anthems to intricately arranged instrumentals.
Challenging the limitations of what people might expect acoustic instruments to sound like, the use of bowed harmonics between fiddle and bass can be as menacing and eerie as it can be psychedelic and mesmerising.
Percussion provided by the front man Langan, whilst singing and driving the rhythm guitar, he somehow co-ordinates the operating of a Cajon and a tambourine with his feet bringing the driving, swinging groove of the rhythm guitar together with his foot percussion resulting in an impressively tight band sound with a tempo that is free to go anywhere.
Add scorching hot fiddle lines and a guy thumping the groove out a double bass.

"Mikey Kenney majestic singer, poetic songwriter, and English folk, Irish, Celtic, Bluegrass and Americana style fiddle player and multi-instrumentalist could've been born any time in the past 500 years, but it's no coincidence that he is alive and well today; for there are no coincidences in nature or the music that grows from its seed. This is indeed a stroke of luck for today's booking agents, tavern owners, and all present and future lovers of 'the real'.
A veritable magician of such substantive law, Kenney's music (solo or collaborative) is a subtly powerful homage to the earth and hearts of humankind, and it succeeds from the bawdy level of spit and sawdust barroom sing-alongs to the lofty heights of the soul set free. Once heard, never forgotten.
Kenney is a busy young man; as his solo project, 'Ottersgear' releases its second LP, The Counsel of Owls, he continues to play with a dazzling array of his contemporaries, including: The Bog Standards (his Irish dance band) Dan Haywood's New Hawks, and Alabaster DePlume's Copernicus Ensemble. Such hard work has bred a semi-cult following and only increases his and our appetites for more of the same.
