Volti--San Francisco's award-winning specialists in contemporary vocal music--opens its concert season with a celebration of song featuring the high school choirs from its educational outreach program, the Choral Institute for High School Singers. You'll hear brief selections from Volti and from the choirs of Acalanes High School, Head-Royce School, Ecco from Piedmont East Bay Children's Choir, Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts, and Mill Valley's 142 Throckmorton Youth Choir. These kids are amazing musicians and this concert is a high-spirited explosion of sound. Each choir sings selections of its own and then all 200 high schoolers and adults together join in a final combined piece--the world premiere of young composer Eric Tuan's "Darkness and Slight Light," set to poetry by Caitlin Hernandez. Both the composer and the poet will be in attendance. |
