Beyond the Red Pencil: Editing in the 21st Century
(UPDATE: Online sales ended at 11:59pm on Wed 10/7. But you can still REGISTER IN PERSON AT THE VENUE ON SATURDAY.)
Join us for a one-day conference for editors, featuring STEVEN PINKER as our keynote speaker.
Pinker's book The Sense of Style: The Thinking Person's Guide to Writing in the 21st Century challenges the dogma that pervades discussions on writing and grammar. He takes the reasoned approach of a linguist and social scientist to help us craft great prose.
We'll also have breakout sessions, group discussions, and opportunities to network with fellow editors.
Continental breakfast and a light lunch will be served. There is also ample off-street parking.
Confirmed topics Include: Delivering Difficult Feedback; Editing Genre Fiction; Freelance Pricing Strategies; Working with Self-Publishers; Editing Text, Tables, and Figures; Building Business in Downtime; Career Transitions: Using Professional Skills to Build an Editing Business; Understanding E-books: An Overview of the Industry; Financial Planning for the Long Arc of Your Editorial Career; Understanding Typography for Page Layout; Overview of Publication Project Management; and Roundtable Discussion Groups: Expert Advice in 30 Minutes or More. For conference updates, please consult http://edsguild.org/conferences and/or follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
